Big Sean Goes Behind the Mic in Chicago

25 Jan, 2015

Roc Nation rapper Big Sean went ‘Behind the Mic’ and spoke to aspiring rappers, fans, and anyone interested in the rap life. The lecture series, brought to you by Donda’s House, was held in Chicago Cultural Center and also included some Q and A with those in attendance.

Big Sean talked about signing to Kanye West’s label GOOD Music in 2007, the countless hours of work that go into making music and brought some reality to those in attendance about how being a rap star doesn’t automatically make you rich.

“I have to pay my manager, my lawyer, my business manager, my tour manager, my publicist. I have to pay another publicist, I have to pay my label, I have to pay all of these people yet I’m the one busting my ass every night on the stage,” he said.

“There’s money in being a manager, money in being a publicist, and sometimes they make more than the artist.”

In a display of ‘realness’ he differed to his mother, who was in attendance, to answer questions he didn’t have an answer for.

You got a great sense of the pride he has in his city and ongoing efforts to enrich the lives of disadvantaged kids in Detroit through his  Sean Anderson Foundation

“You never know how great people can be unless you put everything you got into them.”

Salute to that!
