Happy Birthday FLOTUS

17 Jan, 2016

President Obama undeniably confirmed the first lady has no plans to make a presidential bid. “Let me tell you, there are three things that are certain in life: death, taxes and Michelle is not running for president,” he said when asked directly.

While it’s unclear what’s next for the 52-year-old Chicago native, based on the groundbreaking initiatives she’s spearheaded and causes she’s lent her unyielding support to these past eight years, we’re looking forward to seeing what’s next for Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama.

Throughout President Obama’s historic terms in office, Mrs. Obama has chartered her own path touting initiatives such as health, education, military support and women empowerment.

To say she’s done it all with a superb sense of style and grace would be a clear understatement. Obama has maintained her pulse to American youth with social media campaigns, videos that have gone viral and yes, she’s known to bust a move.

While Barack’s first campaign touted a ‘kid with a funny name’ it has been Michelle’s unspoken journey that slowly began eradicating stereotypical views of women of color.

As the first African American FLOTUS, Michelle has broken down barriers simply by being.  Mrs. Obama has stayed vigilant about fighting childhood obesity with the Let’s Move campaign.

The Trending Report witnessed these efforts first hand during a trip to Chicago where public school students were encouraged during Obama’s speech touting ‘the girl from the south side of Chicago who looks like them’ who after hardwork and determination fulfilled her wildest dreams.

Obama has raised awareness against poverty in America, been unyielding in her support for our troops and encouraged women across the globe. When she speaks, her knowledge and passion is undeniable. Her leadership inspires people – all people, to become their better selves.

This country has seen an astute leader whose grace and strength has been consistent through eight years of ups and downs. Additionally, we’ve witnesses her raise two children in the highest office of the land while keeping them grounded and aware of the issues facing Americans who live outside the White House walls.

We may never address her as Madame President but her work and example will stand the test of time.

To celebrate Obama’s 52nd birthday we’ve compiled a list of her best moments. Enjoy!
