On Stage Tantrum Gets Trey Songz Arrested

29 Dec, 2016

The Big Show at The Joe on Wednesday night turned into a big problem for singer-songwriter Trey Songz, who was arrested after an alleged violent outburst when he was told his time on stage was up, police said.

It was about 11:30 p.m. when Songz, who took part in the fourth annual Big Show at Joe Louis Arena alongside performers such as Chris Brown and Lil Yachty, was told he’d have to leave the stage because his time was up.

At that point, said Officer Dan Donakowski, a Detroit Police Department spokesman, Songz, whose real name is Tremaine Neverson, became “upset and belligerent,” throwing microphones and speakers.

Officers from the Gang Intelligence Unit who were detailed to the show came on stage, trying to calm the situation, but the artist allegedly kept throwing objects — one of which hit a sergeant in the head. Medics transported him to an area hospital, where he was treated and since has been released.

Songz was arrested for malicious destruction of property and for resisting and obstructing arrest and was still at the Detroit Detention Center on Thursday morning. An arraignment is expected, but its timing is unknown at this point, Donakowski said.

Songz is scheduled to perform at a similar event Friday at Chicago’s United Center.

Atlantic Records, Songz’s record label, and Channel 95.5 and FM 98 WJLB, which co-hosted the event, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

As of 10:15 a.m., the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office said it had not yet received a warrant request in the case, a spokesman told The News.
