The Internet is Charged Up About the Black Panther

10 Jun, 2017

After a successful debut in “Captain America: Civil War,” the Black Panther is poised to fill his own superhero spotlight.

Marvel Studios debuted the Black Panther’s first teaser trailer during Friday night’s Game 4 of the NBA Finals — a moment awaited by generations who made him the most popular black superhero ever.

At director Ryan Coogler’s disposal is a who’s-who cast of the top black actors in Hollywood, led by Chadwick Boseman reprising his role as T’Challa the Black Panther, king of Marvel’s technologically advanced African paradise, Wakanda.

In just less than two minutes, Coogler gives us glimpses of so much: Wakanda. The Dora Milaje, the Black Panther’s elite all-female bodyguards (one of whom is portrayed by Lupita Nyong’o). Villain Erik Killmonger (played by Michael B. Jordan (who played a hero for Coogler in “Creed”). And Klaw (Andy Serkis), who hasn’t gotten his fancy new high-tech hand after having it cut off by Ultron in “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” yet he already looks like one of Marvel Studios more compelling evil foes.

“Black Panther” arrives in theaters Feb. 16.
