TV One Confronts REAL Issues in New Series

15 Mar, 2016

TV One’s original series “Here We Go Again” debuted with lots of laughs but the underlying issues of teen pregnancy, underage and unprotected sex are sure to start lasting conversations.

That table-talk was a key reason veteran actress Wendy Raquel Robinson joined the show. The Trending Report spoke with Robinson about her role and why, although the series is slated as a comedy, real issues are being brought to the forefront.

“I wanted to be a part of ‘Here We Go Again’ because I love playing strong women who’ve overcome adversity. Just because you are a teenage mom it doesn’t mean that you necessarily have to stop your life or stop in your tracks. I love my character Loretta Walker because she just keeps it moving.

Even though it took her 6 years to get through college she made it. She’s a real estate agent and she’s still trying to find her way but more importantly she’ll do anything for her daughter and especially now her granddaughter.”

“We’re handling some tough issues” Robinson went on to say.

The half-hour series follows Maddy (LeToya Luckett), a single mother who is convinced there is a “Walker Women’s Curse,” after being born to her mother, Loretta (Wendy Raquel Robinson), at age 16, and having a child herself at age 16. Maddy refuses to let her daughter, Shante, now approaching her dreaded 16th birthday, become the next in line.

“It sounds convoluted and all over the place but it’s something that’s happening out there. It’s happening in a lot of more families than I knew about and the show is now bringing out the conversation,” Robinson said.

But the audience is sure to have a few laughs along the way. “It’s like a modern-urban day family and it’s not about where you’ve come from it’s about where you’re going. You can always recover from a hiccup and get a pickup in your life. It’s not about the hiccup, it’s the pickup,’ concluded Robinson and we concur.
