When Being an NFL All-Pro is Bigger Off The Field

18 Jun, 2015

Chicago Bears All-Pro and Sacramento native Lance Briggs retuned home to host his 7th Annual NorCal All-Star Football Camp. He brought 16 of his National Football League friends too. The sold out event brought out exuberant campers and professionals excited to teach the game they love.

Not only was it an opportunity for over 350 kids to learn from current and former NFL players, the proceeds from the event went to the Briggs4Kidz Foundation.

The 5 hour camp, for kids from 8-17, included instructional training of individual positions, agility drills and one-on-one competitions. Autographed jerseys were given to the best campers chosen by the Pros.

However the most important piece of the day was the group question and answer session. The campers were broken down by age and the NFLers rotated to each group and answered questions.

The questions were both comical “how do you get your dreadlocks into your helmet?” and well thought out “What was your GPA upon graduating high school?”

I was impressed by each and every athlete’s focused responses on the importance of education! “Football is a game that we are fortunate to play on the highest level, however the NFL and a college scholarship wouldn’t be possible with out dedication in the classroom,” said Briggs.

That sentiment was echoed by every player involved. Former Bear Jerry Azumah said “My family was just as excited about my college graduation as my NFL draft day!”

It was an awesome opportunity for the big kids to volunteer their free time for the benefit of young kids.

Salute gentlemen!
