You Knew It Was Coming, Yodel Boy Got A Record Deal

27 Apr, 2018

First the meme, then the festival slot. Now Yodeling Boy has a record deal.

Mason Ramsey, the youngster who got an unlikely shot at fame when his yodeling rendition of Hank Williams“Lovesick Blues” at a Kentucky Walmart when viral last month, has signed with Atlantic Records and Big Loud.

The first release through the joint-signing is the aptly-named “Famous,” which is now available at all DSPs and streaming music services. “If I’m gonna be famous for somethin’/I wanna be famous for lovin’ you/If I’m gonna be known around the world/I wanna because of you, girl,” Ramsey croons in the new song, produced by Corey Crowder and Joey Moi.

In a statement announcing the deal, the 11-year-old Ramsey says: “I’d been to Nashville a few times before, but never thought something like this would happen.  It’s a dream to sign with Atlantic and Big Loud.  I loved recording ‘Famous’ and can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”

Atlantic Records VP of A&R Ian Cripps and Seth England, Big Loud partner, both gush over Ramsey’s raw “star” power. “He has the talent and emotional ability to really feel a song and sing from his soul,” enthuses Cripps. The Ramseys are “an amazing family from a small Southern Illinois town just like me,” adds England, whose company is active in publishing, artist development, management, production, promotion and other areas. “We understood them, and their goals and simply fell in love with their story and vision.”  That vision has yet to be presented in full to the rest of us.

It’s been a meteoric month or so for Ramsey, who made the leap from “Internet sensation” to the big stage when he joined dance producer Whethan for a performance at Coachella.  He’ll make a return appearance on today’s episode ofThe Ellen DeGeneres Show to perform his first single, which can be streamed below.
