Solange Turns SNL Performance into a Family Affair
06 Nov, 2016
Benedict Cumberbatch, riding high from the successful debut of his highly anticipated role as Dr. Strange, served as host of Saturday Night Live in a show that included cameos by the newly minted MLB World Series Champions the Chicago Cubs. However, it was Solange Knowles who stole the show with her musical performances.
Just weeks after the release of her wildly successful album A Seat at the table, Knowles made her Saturday Night Live debut and fans went to Twitter to show their approval. Displaying poise and impeccably dressed the 30-year-old performed “Cranes in the Sky” and “Don’t Touch My Hair” marking her first time singing any tracks off the album on live television, as well as her first time on NBC’s comedy sketch show.
Knowles older sister and musical icon Beyonce was on hand with mother Tina to show their support and have some studio fun along the way. According to Billboard, due to the success of A Seat at the Table, the sisters are now members of a very exclusive club of siblings to score number one albums.
Only two more sets of siblings have managed that feat: Michael and Janet Jackson, and Master P and his brother Silkk the Shocker. Thanks to Lemonade, Beyoncé and Solange are also the first siblings to have a Number One album in the same year since the Jacksons’ Invincible (Michael) and All for You(Janet) in 2001.
