My Week With The Samsung Galaxy Note II

15 Jan, 2013

The new Samsung Galaxy Note II phone/tablet is an amazing device for a lot of different reasons.  First thing that jumps out at you is the large 5.5 inch display that would make this phone the jumbo-tron of smart-phones.

With such a vivid large display it makes think of the imax theatre when viewing media on the device.  In comparison to other devices this phone is the fastest of them all boasting a 1.6GHz quad-core Cortex A9 and a quad-core Exynos 4412, the latest GPU from Samsung.

The one thing that kept coming up with this phone is getting used to the size of it, it’s the biggest of them all however it is ultra-slim and lightweight.

It Can be used with one hand but in true tablet form it is more comfortable using with both. The built in 8 mega pixel camera has as many options as the latest canon dslr camera giving photo aficionados a litany of choices to select when taking photographs.

My favorites are the burst option that allows you to take 20 continuous pictures as well as the panoramic feature that will allow you to capture the full room of people or the entire Chicago city skyline, from a boat of course.

In effect, the best way to describe the Note 2 is a bigger, faster Galaxy S III, and one of the best smart-phones produced this year.

So imagine all of the capability enhanced for a bigger phone that’s somewhere between the size of an iPhone and Nexus 7 tablet.  This smart phone allows you to have the best of both worlds all in one device.

This phone might very well be the tablet killer.  Watch out world!

Pros:
  • Excellent light design that’s big, but easy and comfortable to use
  • Great display that produces excellent picture quality
  • It’s big enough to act as your phone and media tablet
  • Excellent camera for stills and video
  • Best-in-class performance across all facets of the phone
  • Available on all carriers
Cons:
  • The stylus is still impractical. The few functions that it would really be helpful for, such as signing documents, are still absent.
  • The huge size makes it difficult to use with one-hand.  Although it has options for one-hand use, there are to many steps needed to make this change.
