SH: Sacrifice & Honor
TR: Most of us work out because we are told it is good and healthy, some for aesthetic values and others because it is a great way to meet people. Rarely do we think of the gym as a lifestyle and way of life. I had the opportunity to sit down with two young individuals that used this lifestyle as an inspiration to create a clothing brand that has been rapidly evolving since its inception in 2009 and can now be seen in stores and recently LA fitness gyms in Southern California. Sitting here with the founders of Sacrifice & Honor Nate Powers and Nick Paniagua, whom have taken this idea and created an athletic apparel company based out of California. We love this brand and would definitely like to know more about its origin. So first things first, when did the idea come about to create such a brand?
SH: Well, it all started at the gym actually during a workout. We grew up skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing, etc. and there were always brands out there to represent that lifestyle. Always having that passion for working out and keeping fit, naturally led us to want to represent a company that supported this lifestyle. Shockingly, there were not any clothing lines to focus solely on the fitness community. It was during that workout when we decided to create a company we were passionate about and to deliver to the fitness community what had previously not been available.
TR: Agreed, this was definitely lacking in the fitness community and glad we now have something to sport in the gym haha. So, it seems like you two have known each other for awhile, tell us a little about both Nate and Nick and how you two became friends and then eventually business partners.
SH: Wow, where to begin? Well, we have known each other since we were kids (about 6 years old) and were next-door neighbors growing up. We grew up together being interested in the same music, sports, and the love for working out. I would say going to different high schools and colleges lead us on different paths, but eventually the shared passion for fitness brought us back together and onto starting a dream that has turned into reality.
TR: That is definitely not the typical journey you hear of most business partners and the passion and dedication to your company definitely shows! How is it that Sacrifice & Honor has gone from just starting up a couple of years ago to already signing multiple athletes, such as legendary IFBB professional bodybuilder Frank McGrath and NPC Bikini Competitor and International fitness model Lindsay Kaye, MMA fighters, Musicians, and even getting the apparel into stores and gyms? This is much larger than just an Internet based operation.
SH: The best way to describe it is exactly what you said, “dedication.” Our goal has always been to supply our market with the very best in quality at the best rate. By living the same fitness lifestyle as those who purchase our apparel, we know what people want in their athletic and lifestyle attire. We are very involved with our social media base and give them brand connection; in the sense of taking into account the opinions of our customers and putting out what they want. Our athletes see first hand, the quality of our apparel and are quick to support us. We are so grateful to have such a strong and dedicated following. By seeing how much everyone loves our apparel it pushes us even harder to go above and beyond what was previously done and to pump out even better gear.
TR: Would you be willing to say that what sets you apart from other fitness apparel is your dedication?
SH: Well, we would say dedication is a part of it, but I believe every company has to have dedication to be successful. What sets us apart is that we are living, breathing, examples of this lifestyle, we know first hand what our customers want, because we are in the gym with them working out and training, in some aspects you can say that we are our own customers. Being in the gym interacting with our consumers gives us an up close and personal feel as to what they want and don’t want, as opposed to sitting in board rooms and guessing as to what the average consumer would want to wear to the gym. We believe that people buy what they believe in, they want to buy something that speaks as a representation of themself; and that’s what this company is about, it is a representation of the fitness lifestyle; our lifestyle.
TR: We want to thank both of you guys for taking time out of your busy schedule to sit with us, and we wish you continued success in the near future.
SH: Thank you and we definitely look forward to hearing back from you guys again!
