Macklemore, Will.i.am, Elvis Costello and more Join Bono’s Agit8 Campaign
12 Jun, 2013
U2 frontman Bono has called on the likes of Macklemore, will.i.am, Elvis Costello and Mumford & Sons to compile his Agit8 protest song compilation, geared towards raising poverty awareness before next week’s G8 Summit in Northern Ireland.
The compilation is a One Campaign initiaitive that is featured on the advocacy groups’ website. The collection is evenly split between older material recorded by the original artists (including Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Elvis Costello) and artists like Tal, Rea Garvey, David Crowder and Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello covering classic protest songs.
Some of the more notable covers include Lily and Madeline taking on Arcade Fire’s “Intervention” and Daby Touré reinventing John Lennon’s “Working Class Hero.”
When checking out the playlist, listeners can click on each specific track and obtain neatly organized information about the original artist (when applicable), complete lyrics and an interpretation of the song’s meaning.
