Afrojack Invades Chicago

19 Nov, 2012

When I found out that Afrojack was coming to Chicago to perform at the Congress Theatre, I knew I had to be there. I’m an avid EDM follower and I’ve been to several shows and festivals including Spring Awakening.

I’ve seen DJs such as Steve Angello, Porter Robinson, Hardwell, Steve Aoki and many more, however nothing could prepare for the show that the Dutchman himself put on. I arrived in time to see Quintino perform, I’ve never seen him live but his song Epic has been in my playlist for over a year, how could you not love that track?  When he dropped it for his last song a bolt of energy surged from my core and I knew I had to be in front of the crowd and jump as high as I could.

R3hab also did a masterful job. This was my second time seeing him live, and he always puts on a funky show. Of the opening acts Shermanology had to be my favorite. With a live vocalist that can wail with the best of them you can never go wrong, singing songs from ‘We found Love’ by Rihanna and Calvin Harris to one of my all time favorites ‘Blessed’ by Tom Hangs.

Shermanology’s set hyped the crowd and set the mood perfectly for Afrojack. The atmosphere  was filled with different ages, races and people vibing to the same tunes, as if we were moving to the same rythmic beat. Afrojack set the stage on fire! I’ve heard the acronym PLUR, Peace, Love, Unity and RESPECT, being used for many years and that meaning came to life this weekend as I saw it with my own eyes.

With non-stop bass and a beautiful light shows, I couldn’t contain myself. I lost control and danced the night away. If you’ve never been to an EDM show (electronic Dance Music) I beg of you attend the next Afrojack show in your city, it is a sensory experience that will not disappoint. This was definetly one of the best shows I have attended!  The Dutchman delivered and boy did he deliver big! Thank you once again Afrojack.
