Exclusive Interview With Author of New CW Drama Series

TR spoke with author Jessica Shirvington about her TV bound book
The CW has ordered the pilot for a new series based on the novel Embrace by Jessica Shirvington. The hour-long drama will be produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television and is expected to debut next season.
I sat down with Shirvington while she was in Naperville on a book tour to learn that the novel sort of just happened. “Embrace was my first attempt at writing a novel and I didn’t even set out to write a book… I just started writing a story and it developed.” Amazingly her burst of imagination gave birth to a concept so intriguing production companies flocked in order to bring this story to life.
Embrace tells the story of Violet Eden who discovers that she is half-angel on her 17th birthday. And if that wasn’t enough to deal with, try being the missing piece of a war between fallen angels and their earthly partners. In the book series, we are taken on the journey as Eden experiences life, love and the consequences of her choices.
The adventure spans the supernatural world with glimpses into mythologies and powers. Yet, classifying the heroine as a ‘normal’ teen navigating the challenges of life, wouldn’t be an incorrect comparison. “I wanted her to make the mistakes so she would grow into the strong heroine that I wanted her to be,” Shirvington said. “She’s definitely growing with each book and becoming this strong young woman.”
The story line and book were almost an instant success. Shirvington started receiving calls from production companies almost immediately after the release of Embrace. Not bad for her first novel. But it was an email from the CW that started Embrace on the track to becoming a television series. “I always hoped in my crazy dreams that maybe a TV series would be perfect for it,” Shirvington said.
A meeting eventually followed the email and while Shirvington was en route to her hotel she received a call. That call was her dream coming true. Based on the success of the book, the CW is hoping viewers will embrace the television drama just as much.
