Its #NickiDay and The Beef is On
12 Apr, 2018
April 12, 2018, is continuing to go down in music history as #NickiDay after the release of Nicki Minaj’s two new singles, “Barbie Tingz” and “Chun-Li.” Now, the rapper is coming for the haters, directly addressing the long-rumored beef with Cardi B.
After opening up about her issues over her verse on Migos’ “Motorsport” during her interview with Beats 1’s Zane Lowe on Thursday (April 12), Minaj took to Twitter to elaborate, saying that her original verse on the collab was altered per Cardi’s request.
In a November interview with UK’s Capital Xtra, Cardi B discussed the change in the song, but didn’t indicate that she had anything to do with Minaj’s section be altered. “When I heard the track, her verse wasn’t finished — well, it’s not the verse that is out right now — and Quavo told me to get on the song, and I just felt like it was a perfect opportunity for me to be on a track that’s big like that,” she said.
Minaj, outraged, wrote on Twitter, “How can you say someone changed their verse & forget to say Quavo TOLD me to remove my singing part (which I loved) & Atlantic told me to remove your name from my verse per your request?”
Rumors in the Twittersphere suggest that part of Minaj’s “Motorsport” verse was removed to make room for Cardi. A couple of leaked videos of the original verse include the Cardi-mentioning lyric in question, in which Minaj likens herself to legendary 1960s Green Bay Packers coach Vince Lombardi: “If Cardi the QB, I’m Nick Lombardi.”
