Kobe Bryant Brightest of All, NBA All-Stars

Kobe Bryant entered the record books for being named to 15 straight NBA All-Star games, while Kevin Garnett moved into a three-way tie for second place on the list of all-time NBA All-Star game selections, when the league announced the results of fan voting for the 2013 NBA All-Star game starting fives.
Bryant moved past Jerry West, Karl Malone and Shaquille O’Neal in number of consecutive All-Star game appearances, while Garnett’s 15th selection puts him in a tie for second with Bryant and O’Neal for second-most inclusions in the league’s showcase event, four shy of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who was named to 19 games.
Los Angeles Laker Bryant became the top vote-getter with 1,591,437 votes, and will be partnered in the Western Conference backcourt with LA Clippers point guard Chris Paul (929,155). Up front are Oklahoma City Thunder Kevin Durant (1,504,047), Bryant’s teammate Dwight Howard (922,070) and Paul’s fellow Clipper Blake Griffin (863,832).
For the East, LeBron James was narrowly edged by Bryant as top vote-getter, amassing 1,583,646 nods. With him in the front court are Boston Celtic Garnett (553,222), and New York Knick Carmelo Anthony (1,460,950). Manning the backcourt are James’ teammate Dwyane Wade (1,052,310), and Garnett’s floor general Rajon Rondo (924,180).
The 2013 All-Star Game is set for February 15-17, in Houston, Texas. The reserves for the two squads, as chosen by the league’s coaches, will be announced on January 24.
