David Beckham will Join French Soccer Club
31 Jan, 2013
LONDON – David Beckham is set to make a move to French soccer heavyweights Paris Saint Germain, according to media reports.
The BBC and Associated Press reported on Thursday that the 37-year-old English player is on his way to Paris to complete a medical exam and that Beckham will appear in a press conference in the French capital later Thursday.
Beckham is expected to begin formal training with the club in the next two weeks. The former Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder’s next move has been the subject of much speculation in recent months.
A former Manchester United star, Beckham has been mulling offers from clubs around the world after leaving the Los Angeles Galaxy in December to end a six-year stint in Major League Soccer. He had been spotted training with the English Premier League club Arsenal in recent days.
At PSG, Beckham will be hoping to win a league title in a fourth country, having already enjoyed success at Manchester United and Real Madrid in Europe before moving to Major League Soccer.
Beckham had been close to joining PSG last January, but rejected a deal worth about $12 million per year to stay in California for one more season.
Beckham made 115 appearances for England, a record for a player other than a goalkeeper.
