Kerry Washington: A life of Getting It Handled

ABC’s hit show ‘Scandal’ continues to dominate Thursday night with numbers that are a network’s dream. Millions of fans tune in with a glass of wine and bowl of popcorn while Kerry Washington’s signature character Olivia Pope handles the nuances of the nation’s capital with her crew of gladiators.

With the winter season finale upon us it’s only right that we take a look at a few reasons why we are so in love with Kerry Washington.

As recent as last weekend Washington was the honoree at the Baby2Baby charity gala. Scandal show creator and good friend Shonda Rhimes presented Washington with the Giving Tree award for her work helping the non-profit organization provide basic necessities to children.

Fittingly, Rhimes started her speech with the cutest story of when she learned of Washington’s pregnancy. “I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited for the news that someone aside from my sisters was going to have a baby than I was when Kerry Washington told me she was pregnant. We were in her trailer and I think I danced. Or maybe I jumped up and down, but whatever I did, her trailer was rocking,” reports Variety’s Seth Kelley.

Washington and husband Nnamdi Asomugha had their first child Isabelle in 2014. While Rhimes spoke of Washington’s dedication to charitable causes on stage, FLOTUS Michelle Obama, media mogul Oprah Winfrey, and co-star Tony Goldwyn were among those featured in a video presentation thanking Washington for her endless dedication to philanthropy.

Washington sits on President Obama’s committee on the arts and humanities, advocates for the Purple Purse project that works to protect women against domestic violence as well as supports V-Day that works to end predatory violence against women…just to name a few.

“Bringing children to the arts, ending domestic violence, giving women financial independence, she’s gladiating for families,” Rhimes said. “So you get why I jumped up and down in the trailer, right?”

Yes Shonda, we do.
