Joe Johnson Cut By Nets, Cleveland is on the Clock

25 Feb, 2016

The woeful Brooklyn Nets have cut ties with their most expensive player.

Veteran shooting guard Joe Johnson was waived by the team Thursday after the team announced a buyout for what was left of his $24.9 million salary this season. But the 15-42 Nets did Johnson a favor too, letting him go before March 1 allows him to sign with another team and still be eligible for the playoffs.

First, Johnson needs to clear waivers, which would seem to be just a formality unless a team would like to pick up the remainder of that $24.9 million chunk of change.

But once he does, there’s one team out there that might be a perfect fit for the vet –€“ the Cleveland Cavaliers. Yes, the 6-foot-7 shooting guard is averaging just 11.8 points on 41 percent shooting, but the man can still stretch the floor.

He’s shooting 37 percent from deep and with all the open looks he would likely get playing alongside LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love, that number would probably rise.

Or maybe he goes to another contender?
