Last Night with My Alma Mater

14 Nov, 2013

Last Night my Alma-Mater Ball State University played the Northern Illinois Huskies in a Mid-American Conference show down.  The stage was set with both teams having outstanding seasons, Ball State sitting at 9-1 and Northern Illinois sitting at 9-0.

After an explosive first half, BSU went into halftime with the lead 24-20.  The second half was another story though.  Northern Illinois scored 28 points while Ball State only scored a field goal.  It seemed like the half time adjustments the Huskies made to stop Ball State’s offense was working.

I must tip my hat to NIU’s quarterback Jordan Lynch who finished the game with amazing numbers, going 26-32 and 345 yards passing and 2 TDs, while rushing the ball 20 times for 123 yards and 2 more TDs. As the saying goes “Big players, make Big plays, in Big games.”  He did that!

When the game mattered most, he was able to escape a tackle for a loss on third and 11 and rush for a first down.  It felt like at that moment, the wind was taken out of the Cardinal’s sails.  NIU would later score on that drive and go on to win the game.

As a sidebar,  I can honestly say if the Mid-American Conference had the respect that it deserved Jordan Lynch would be up for the Heisman trophy.  Football is football and he has been killing.

As soon as Northern Illinois had the game secure the temperature seemed like it had dropped 20 degrees and we were ready to start heading back to the parking lot.  Not before saying our goodbyes to former teammates and high-fiving some of the Ball State faithful fans that had made the trip from Indiana.  It’s always a pleasure to reunite with past teammates and reminisce on our playing days.

Until we meet again fellas!

S/O to my friends and family that are NIU Football Alums; Perry Amoo-Mensah, Ohene Ababio, and Garret Wolfe.

Special shout out to Alger Bozwell, Steve Monson, Ant Jones, Timadayo Macarthy, Garret Bova, Talmadge Hill, Obie LeFlore, the Harper Cardinals Lil Earl, Rico, Arjay, and anyone I forgot to mention.
