More Life, More Spots on The Charts

19 Mar, 2017

Drake’s new More Life album dominated the realtime Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 chart shortly after its release on March 18 as its tracks ruled the entire top 10. Ultimately, 19 of the set’s 22 songs have reached the chart as of 8 p.m. PT on the day of the set’s release.

The Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 chart measures the real-time acceleration of conversation around artists and their music on Twitter.

“Glow,” which features Kanye West, led the list at No. 1, while the Quavo and Travis Scott-assisted “Portland” held the runner-up spot. “Do Not Disturb” and “Free Smoke” ranked at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively, and “Teenage Fever,” which interpolates Jennifer Lopez’s Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit “If You Had My Love,” rounded out the top five.

Drake premiered the More Life set during the March 18 episode of his Beats 1 radio show, OVO Sound, before releasing it widely for streaming and purchase. The project, which the superstar announced back in October of 2016, was originally slated for a December release before being pushed back to early 2017. Among the set’s 22 tracks is “Fake Love,” which Drake released in conjunction with the October album announcement. The song reached No. 9 on the Hot 100.

More Life marks the first Drake album since 2016’s Views, which spent 13 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 — the longest run at No. 1 of any album by a male artist since 1992 — and finished as the year’s No. 2 Billboard 200 album.
