It Was All Good Just A Week Ago….

25 Oct, 2013

I’ve had the opportunity to work with two of the most premier rappers of recent history, Drake and Kendrick Lamar. We first brought Drake to do   his first concert in Chicago in May 2009. We followed that by bringing Kendrick Lamarr to do his first show in Chicago in December 2011.

They were both early in their careers and we had a great opportunity to build with them and get know on a more personal level. I don’t think any one involved could envision that they would soon be two of the biggest names in the rap game.

With that being said, the recent verbal warfare that they have waged against each other is more than interesting and somewhat odd from the outside looking in.

Think about it, Drake toured with Kendrick less than two years ago. On top of that they have worked on numerous tracks together, both appearing on each others albums Good Kid M A A D City  Poetic Justice and Drake’s Take Care Buried Alive.

When ‘The Control’ verse was dropped by big Sean ft Kendrick and Jay Electronica the proverbial line In the sand had been drawn, it was clear that Kendrick Lamar was aiming for the top spot by calling out rappers by name and telling them to step their shit up.

It was a rocket heard around the world and lit the twitters verse on fire. My personal opinion is that Kendrick was right. The rap game and the art of comprising a song filled with dope punch lines, a catchy hook and verbal content that matters has been lost. I didn’t really feel like he disrespected anyone in particular because he lead in by saying “I got love for you….” He could have just as easily said fuck all of you.

So what do you think? Drake fired back in interviews, the crown interview with Elliot Wilson to be exact, and them again on Track 11 of Nothing Was The Same  track “The Language”.

However the TDE captain was ready with his verse on the BET Hip Hop Awards  Cypher verse that was another rocket ship, followed by a heat seeking missile and a Tomahawk!!!

You be the judge? I’m taking on all comments and conversations….let’s be honest, as long as it doesn’t get pushed to a level of nonsense or physical violence and all the bullshit that hurts the hip-hop community, I think this is a good thing.

If nothing else happened. I know the entire game is waiting for who makes the next move in this verbal chess match., I know am!
