The Cleveland Browns Are Making Moves
19 May, 2014
One week after making a lot of news during the 2014 NFL draft, the Cleveland Browns are shuffling up their roster a little bit. In is Miles Austin as a new wide receiver option and out is Greg Little. With Josh Gordon’s status still up in the air, Cleveland is trying to upgrade at the wide receiver position so that they can contend in 2014.
Little was a three-year veteran for the Browns, and he did show some promise. The 2013 season was rough for him, as he picked up just 465 yards. Still, it was a surprise to some that he was cut. Cleveland’s management cited “character concerns” as one major reason the two teams parted ways.
While Little’s fantasy football value took a hit, Miles Austin was able to step right in a potentially solid position. Little is gone, and Gordon could be out for the entire year after testing positive for marijuana again.
Austin is a solid veteran, but at this point in time fans and fantasy football owners need to be a little bit worried about his durability. He has routinely missed a decent amount of time, and Cleveland is already dealing with depth issues at the position.
They are going to be relying quite a bit on Austin and Earl Bennett, which is not exactly ideal for a franchise that will either go with Brian Hoyer or Johnny Manziel as their starting quarterback. Gordon could change the dynamic quite a bit if he is allowed to play, but even an Austin for Little swap won’t be enough to make them playoff contenders.
