St Louis Rams Get the Worst News

The Rams’ worst fears were confirmed on Sunday.

A MRI showed that quarterback Sam Bradford suffered a torn ACL in his surgically repaired left knee, as first reported by ESPN’s Chris Mortensen. FOX Sports NFL Insider Mike Garafolo confirms that Bradford is expected to miss the entire 2014 season.

Bradford left Saturday’s preseason game against the Cleveland Browns after getting hit by defensive end Armonty Bryant on a throw. The fifth-year quarterback fell to the ground, was taken out of the game immediately and eventually went to the locker room. He didn’t return to the game.

Head coach Jeff Fisher seemed optimistic when speaking with reporters afterwards, saying that the injury “appeared just to be a hyperextension.” Fisher said that Bradford was also walking around the locker room. However, NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport said the QB was given a battery of tests on Sunday and the true extent of the injury revealed itself.

Bradford was recovering from the exact same torn ACL injury in the same knee that he suffered last October. He ended up missing the final nine games of the season. He’s missed 15 games over the first four years of his career.

Unless the Rams decide to make a trade, they’ll now hand the keys to the offense to backup quarterback Shaun Hill, who hasn’t made an NFL start since 2010.
