Former Bears QB Survives Suicide Attempt

20 Aug, 2015

Former NFL quarterback Erik Kramer survived an apparent suicide attempt when Los Angeles County sheriff deputies found him with self-inflicted gunshot wounds at a hotel in Calabasas, Calif. motel Tuesday night.

Kramer’s injuries were non-life threatening, according to NBC News.

Kramer, 50, played for four NFL teams during a 10-year career. He led the Lions to a 12-4 record and an appearance in the 1991 NFC Championship game.

His former wife, Marshawn Kramer, told NBC News he had been suffering from depression as a result of brain injuries.

“He is a very amazing man, a beautiful soul, but he has suffered depression since he was with the Bears (in 1995),” Kramer said in a telephone interview with NBC News. “I can promise you he is not the same man I married.”
