Jameis Winston’s NFL Pro Day is Impressive

31 Mar, 2015

Jameis Winston did nothing to hurt his stock Tuesday, with an impressive performance during Florida State’s pro day workout before NFL teams.

Take that from the head coach of the team that owns the top pick in the NFL draft.

“Nothing to disappoint you,” Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Lovie Smith told USA TODAY Sports. “It’s kind of who he is. He’s a good football player. When he gets on the stage, he normally looks like that.”

The Bucs are widely expected to take Winston No. 1 overall on April 30, although Smith maintains that the evaluation process is ongoing.

Winston added to the process by completing 91 of 102 passes — and the numbers would have been better if not for the five drops by receivers. His accuracy on deep passes was impressive, and he demonstrated nice touch and good footwork during a session that lasted about an hour — longer than most for a quarterback.

Winston believes he accomplished what he intended to on Tuesday.

“I did great on every throw,” he declared.

Asked why the Bucs should draft him with the top pick, he said, “Because I’m the best player in the draft.”
