Leo Messi and Friends Take Over Chicago

12 Jul, 2013

4-Time Ballon D’Or winner and FC Barcelona star Leo Messi and Friends came to Chicago to showcase their All-World talent and give us a taste of the Premier League and Li Liga soccer experience.

Soccer fans were treated to a 4 goal performance by the worlds best player as Messi lead his team to a 9-6 victory over the ‘Rest of the World’ team featuring the great Thierry Henry, Florent Malouda, Julio Cesar, and several other brilliant international soccer players.

Messi played into the 69th minute and left the game. His departure was met with cheers and some boos by the 25,000 fans at Soldier Field who wanted to see more of the Argentinian phenom.

The game was to feature up to 35 international stars but a number of the them didn’t show so 9 former Northwestern University players helped to fill out the rosters.

Former Wildcats forward Matt Eliason had the game’s most dramatic goal, scoring on a spectacular bicycle kick in the 20th minute.

It was witnessing that awe inspiring bicycle kick by Eliason that made my inner announcer come out and scream “GOOOOOOOAAAAAALLL!”

The opportunity to witness Leo Messi, the worlds best soccer player, in an environment filled with dedicated and passionate fans in the great city of Chicago, was simply awesome!
